Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations show the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
